Futurtech 2008: The digital provide - January 25, 2008

FuturTech is the University of Michigan’s premier business and technology conference, bringing together representatives from the Ross School of Business, the College of Engineering, the School of Information, and major corporations from around the world. It is one of the largest conferences at the business school and provides a forum for top talent and industry leaders to discuss the intersection of business and technology.

This year’s conference, The Digital Provide, will be hosted by the RSB community on January 25, 2008 in Ann Arbor, MI.

Technological advancement has allowed a privileged few to live healthier, communicate faster, and compete globally. Increasingly, however, technology has spread beyond the elite and into the hands of the world's masses, enabling everything from cellular-based banking in rural Kenya, to telecommuting in suburban America, to political activism in China. How will the proliferation of web-enabled devices, broadband access, and computer literacy affect the development of human society? What innovations and new technologies are emerging to help bridge the economic and digital divides? How will traditional industry players have to change in order to keep up with these innovations and technologies?

We’ll discuss the implications of these trends at FuturTech 2008.
